Did you know that December 1st is Rosa Parks Day?
Rosa Parks was not born on December 1, but she did something on December 1 for which she is remembered.
- Scholastic.com shares information: Rosa Parks: How I fought for Civil Rights.
- The Library of Congress shares an American Memory of Dec. 1, 1955: Today in History Dec. 1.
- The My Hero Project has information on a Freedom Hero: Rosa Parks.
- There is even a book on Big Universe Learning called Rosa Parks: A life of courage.
This book by Tonya Leslie shows how Rosa Parks lived her life courageously. She refused to change bus seats because she was African-American. Children will discover the bravery of Rosa Parks during a time of racial segregation. Students will probably have lots of questions about why things were they way they were. This book and the discussion it promotes could be a great opportunity for learning.
