Cross training helps children and adults to improve their athletic performance. Cross training is training in two or more sports in order to improve fitness and performance, especially in a main sport. For example, a baseball player can also participate in swimming. Football players in the National Football League have been known to do yoga to improve their athletic performance, and it works! Stretching helps to prevent athletic injuries. Athletes often weight train in the gym to build their muscular strength.

When kids start cross training at a young age, it provides many benefits. One positive factor is that children and teens get exposure to many types of sports and exercise programs. The more exposure that they have at a young age increases the likelihood that kids will find a sport or exercise program that they really like. Children and teens that participate in exercise in at a young age are more likely to carry the positive habit of daily exercise to adulthood.
