Dawn, these are great ideas for little ones. Here are two more to add to your list.

-- When my preschoolers were learning to read and write, we had a giant easel chalkboard with big chubby pieces of chalk that were easy to grasp. They scrawled gigantic letters, putting their whole bodies into it!
-- Plus, an oversized wooden ABC puzzle saw a lot of use, too. My girls loved that puzzle because we made up different word games each time they put it together. "A is for Alice. B is for Bart. C is for Carlos. D is for Darby... "

The "TU" picture is cute. It reminds me of my great-niece, Rachel, who ran up to her mom to ask how to make a letter "Q." Her mom showed her and then asked, "What are you doing with the letter Q?" Rachel replied, "I am writing a Thank Q letter." - Suzan

I started a book club for my oldest when she was finishing 1st grade to encourage her to read. She is now in 4th grade and it's her favorite thing to do. We've had some wonderful experiences both getting to know kids and parents AND books through the book club. I started a book club for my middle child and am now about to restart the one for my youngest.

I blog on starting a book club and share our most successful book club meetings.

I completely agree with you! I completely didn't get it when I was a kid, I just didn't get it.

Now, since becoming a parent - I love the books and my kids have all loved the books - so we're all good. LOL!

I'm considering signing up for a big universe membership, but I'm concerned that the authors of the books me and my kids read will not be compensated for our reading. Can you illuminate what sort of compensation authors receive?
